Let’s take another look at Paul’s statement in Romans 7 vs 15: New Living Translation
“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.”
Again, please note – he was talking in the present tense, not the past.
This man who previously persecuted Christians and obviously struggled with some personal failings throughout his life, still went on to be the greatest Gospel preacher of all.
If you’re reading this article then chances are God has an important plan for you. When I say important I don’t mean numbers, money, or other self-serving interests. I’m also not referring to ‘church’ matters. I’m talking about your mission to positively touch lives in the way God has designed for you to – via your Passion / Purpose. The truth is what you do between Monday and Friday / Saturday has far greater impact on society and the world at large than anything you do in church.
But there’s an obstacle in your way. One far greater than any external influence or power – constantly pointing you to your failings and faults as against your incredible ability to achieve what God created you for.
Our minds tell us we don’t have a right to succeed because of past mistakes and failings.
Let’s dismantle these negative thoughts today.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3 vs 23
In other words there’s not one person on earth that can claim to be perfect. Furthermore we’re told anyone that claims to be perfect is not only a liar but is deceiving him/herself.
“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.”
1st John 1 vs 8: New Living Translation
I would go so far as to say ‘beware of anyone that portrays him / herself to be perfect. Such a person is not only lying but is literally dangerous to your health. But herein lies the biggest problem of all. Many Christians are sold ‘perfection’ on a weekly basis – told that unless they do, give, and obey such and such they cannot serve God and or be blessed.
The bible tells us otherwise. Most of the individuals God utilised were steeped in imperfections.
David not only committed adultery but also engineered the death of an innocent man by placing him on the front line of battle
Despite God’s assurances and promises Abraham often lied whenever he perceived any sign of trouble.
Joseph was an extremely arrogant young man, and Jacob was a lying rogue
And yet they were chosen and loved by God.
Indeed, just as God knew of every mistake and failing of the likes of David and Abraham before they were born, he also knew yours. And yet He chose you anyway.
I’m not saying you should do as you wish. But stop seeing yourself as unworthy. Your worth doesn’t come from how many mistakes you have or haven’t made, but from who you are – a beloved child of God.
I’m emphasising on this today because I sense there are many out there who are so mired in guilt and self-condemnation that they dare not attempt to take even one step towards their Passion /Purpose.
Please write the following statements in your journal.
1. I am God’s beloved
John 1 vs 12
2. I am free from any condemnation brought against me and I cannot be separated from the love of God
Romans 8 vs 31 – 39
3. “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be Holy and Blameless in His sight. “
Ephesians 4 vs 1
4. I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God.
2nd Corinthians 1 vs 21-22
This is who you are – Chosen, Blameless, Anointed, Holy, Established, Free, and Beloved – all by God and not your ‘works’.
Then I want you to jot down all your good points. And yes, you may have become so used to only seeing the negatives that you find it difficult to think of any good points. If that’s the case, tough cookies- try harder – the good points are in there.
Remind yourself of the above truths every morning as soon as you wake up, and every night before going to bed – no matter how you’re feeling or what you’ve done. Continue doing this for several months and the way you see yourself will begin to change in a very positive way.
There’s nobody on this planet that doesn’t have a few skeletons in his/her cupboard.
But don’t allow your skeletons to prevent you from actualising your Passion. God knew about those skeletons before he created you.
Actualising one’s Passion / Purpose is never easy. But despite the many challenges you’ll face, the only thing that can prevent your success is a wrong belief that you have no right to it because of past / present mistakes and failings.
You have every right to succeed, because You Were Chosen, You are Holy, and You’re Blameless in God’s eyes – not because of anything you’ve done, but because He chose you – just like he chose Abraham, Moses, David, and so many others.
Focus on these truths, and you become Unstoppable.
